Narrative and philosophical writings, poetry, theatre, painting, music, and sculpture have provided cultural masterpieces throughout history that are meaningful and relevant to the most important concerns of humanity. In contrast, the evolution of digital mass media and the Internet has led to a world containing an inconceivable amount of digital content that is often frivolous or advertising for products and services. As digital media become increasingly ubiquitous and involved with nearly every aspect of our lives, it is vital to recognize the social function of media and to create meaningful media content that contributes to the human condition.
